Within GCA, ITU and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) are pioneering the deployment of solutions and services to address cyberthreats on a global scale.

ITU-IMPACT’s endeavor is the first truly global multi-stakeholder and public-private alliance against cyber threats, staging its state-of-the-art facilities in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. An operational home of ITU’s Global Cyber Security Agenda (GCA), it supports 193 Member States and others with the expertise, facilities and resources to effectively enhance the global community’s capability and capacity to prevent, defend against and respond to cyber threats.

Introduction

Within the framework of the ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA),in 2008, ITU and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in which IMPACT’s new state-of-the-art global headquarters in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, will effectively become the physical home of the GCA.

On 20 May 2011, during the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, a landmark agreement was signed between the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT). IMPACT officially became the Cybersecurity executing arm of the United Nations’ (UN) specialized agency - ITU. As the world’s first comprehensive alliance against cyber threats, IMPACT brings together governments, academia and industry experts to enhance the global community’s capabilities in dealing with cyber threats. IMPACT provides ITU’s 193 Member States access to expertise, facilities and resources to effectively address cyber threats, as well as assisting United Nations bodies in protecting their Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructures.

The BDT is responsible for all implementation aspects related to the ITU-IMPACT and is working with ITU Member States to assess their specific needs in order to provide proper assistance, thus facilitating the development of Cybersecurity capabilities and the establishment of related services.

ITU-IMPACT's Global Responce Center is designed to be the foremost resource centre for cyber threats in the world. Working with leading partners from academia, governments and industrysuch as Symantec Corporation, Kaspersky Lab, F-Secure, Trend Micro, Microsoft and ABI Research, the GRC provides the global community with a near real time aggregated early warning system for cyber threats.
