Session 1: The Science - Tools to Monitor Oceans and Climate Variables
Submarine cables can be used as a real-time global network to monitor climate change and to provide tsunami warnings.
Future generations of cables and associated components could have the capacity to directly measure climate variables, such as water temperature, salinity and pressure on the ocean floor. All this could be achieved over long periods of time at low cost.
Despite a wide range of tools to monitor oceans, oceanographers cannot measure water variables at the sea floor. The workshop highlights how new and old submarine telecommunication cables could fill this gap.

Session 5: World Café
This last session of the workshop
invites the active involvement of each
and every participant in a collaborative
conversation around the key questions
and issues emerging from the previous
sessions.
Given the pioneering topic of the
workshop, this shared dialogue
facilitates intensive peer exchanges and
is an excellent means to consolidate an
open network of world-class experts in
the field.
Open to all ITU Green Standards Week
participants.
