Summary: A complex or campus is a collection of buildings and grounds that belong to a given institution, either academic or non-academic. There are many types of complex, such as complexes for corporates, industries, sport and meeting venues, commerce, etc. A campus refers to a specific area for academic purposes. Complexes and campuses play an important role in people’s work and life, and have common requirements in terms of smart management. With the development of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, the management of complex and campus has gradually moved towards intelligence, and many smart complex and campus systems have emerged to improve the management and operation efficiency. The digital twin technology can solve the problems like historical record or baseline, operational performance monitoring, testing or predicting future outcomes. It has been widely used in smart complex and campus system. By combining with emerging ICT technologies, such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence, it is possible to access various terminals to collect the data of physical complex and campus in real time, and to model people (without personally identifiable information), devices, things and events in the complex and campus, realize intelligent monitoring and simulation, and realize remote control of the physical complex and campus through the digital twin complex and campus. Digital twin based smart complex and campus system can address challenges of management and operation of complex and campus, such as low management efficiency, poor service experience, serious energy waste, weak comprehensive security, and high operational costs. It implements digital transformation of such complex and campus and enhances service experience.
