Summary: Due to the exponential growth in demand of data and communication services, networks have become increased complicated with more and more devices. This will inevitably lead to an energy crunch and bring serious economic and environmental problems. At present, with the continuous growth of IMT-2020 networks, energy consumption is one of the highest operating costs that many network operators face. To address energy consumption for network operational expenditure(OPEX) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) considerations traditional operation and management methods are unable to meet energy-saving requirements, Artificial intelligence (AI) is introduced to improve energy efficiency of IMT-2020 networks and beyond. The related functional requirements and framework have been studied in SG13, namely, Y.IMT2020-REEM“Energy efficiency management of virtual resources in IMT-2020 networks and beyond”. Based on this, corresponding work on protocol and signaling procedures for managing energy efficiency with AI-assisted analysis need to be studied. The standardization of protocol for managing energy efficiency will help the network management system to flexibly schedule, management and orchestration, help to reduce OPEX, and promote the construction of an environmentally friendly society by reducing carbon emissions. Thus, this new work item aims to specify protocol for managing energy efficiency with AI-assisted analysis in IMT-2020 networks and beyond.
