Summary: EV market is growing and the power consumption cannot be ignored. Fine granularity power usage data is required for better carbon emission tracing and management in smart city. This draft Recommendation provides the requirements for the electric vehicle power usage data acquisition and management, which can be used to guide the design of the framework and architecture of an electric vehicle power usage data acquisition and management system, as well as defining the reference points for consistent interface and information model. The data collected pertains to the electric vehicle's power usage process, including voltage, energy consumption, power distribution, temperature, vibrations, and driving trajectory, and smart city infrastructure, like roadside unit, cellular base station, and hotspot, should be used and coordinated for data delivery from EV to smart city platform, raising distinct requirements from conventional IoT. Following the requirements, uniform electric vehicle power usage data are acquired and managed. This enables the smart city to trace vehicle level carbon footprint by collecting electric vehicle power usage data, as well as supporting other application domains in smart city and 3rd-party entities, e.g., planning of electric charging supply facilities, pricing on insurance, assessing second-hand electric cars, promoting battery swapping, etc. This draft Recommendation applies to the design and development of electric vehicle power usage data acquisition and management for smart city.
