Threat intelligence training Cotonou, Benin 11-15 December 2017


 
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the AfricaCERT organized a five days capacity building workshop on Threat intelligence for CIRTS. The workshop covered organizational and technical considerations for an effective CSIRTs, tooling and processes that can be used by CIRTs to preform threat intelligence to mitigate effectively threats and risks.

The event took place from 11th - 15th December 2017 in Cotonou, Benin in collaboration with l’Agence Nationale de la Sécurité des systèmes d'information (ANSSI FRANCE)  at the invitation of the Bureau d’analyse et d’investigation du Benin under the Presidency of Benin and host by the Agence des Services et Systèmes d’Information.

 

Purpose

The event aimed to improve the cyber readiness of countries by strengthening the organizational and technical capacities of their CIRTs and  to help member states  to understand external threats, such as zero-day threats, advanced persistent threats (APTs) and exploits. 
At the end of the 5-day workshop, participants could
    • Understand how to conduct a maturity assessment and formulate a cybersecurity readiness assessment
    • Understand the balance between organizational and technical responsibilities and the associated roles 
    • Understand how to create a CIRT
    • Understand and develop tactical, operational and strategic intelligence skills
    • Understand how to generate intelligence threats to detect, respond to and defeat Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs)
    • Validate information received from other organizations / vendors to minimize resource expenditure in bad intelligence
    • Leverage open intelligence to complement a security team of any size
    • Create compromise indicators (COI).
