Capcity Building workshop on Guidelines on Universal Access and Service AND Toolkit
for Sub-Saharan Africa
 
 
The capacity building workshop on Guidelines on Universal Access and Service (UA/S) and Toolkit of Best Practices was held in Libreville, Gabon from 21-22 June 2012 at the City of Democratie at the kind invitation of the Government of Gabon. The objective of this workshop was to share the results and lessons learned in the SADC region with all the beneficiary countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the latter sharing their experiences - all that with the goal of preparing the recommendations applicable to the entire Sub-Saharan region.

SADC Meetings of Senior Officials and Ministers responsible for ICT,
Communications and Postals


Ministers were invited to note that the development of Assessment on the Implementation of Universal/Service and Access in SADC report and review of the SADC Universal Service Guidelines was implemented with the funding from the HIPSSA (ITU/EC/GTZ) project.
 
The validation workshop of the two documents was kindly hosted by the Namibian Communication Commission (NCC) in Windhoek, Namibia in March 2011.

CRASA 14th Annual General Meeting
 
 
The 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was invited to note the following agenda proposed by the Executive Committee of the Communications Regulators' Association of Southern Africa (CRASA): 

REVIEW OF SADC UNIVERSAL SERVICE GUIDELINES
 
The AGM was invited to note the reviewed draft SADC Universal Service Guidelines and the assessment of the implementation of universal service/access strategies in the region.
The AGM was also to note that the Executive Committee has approved that the reviewed draft SADC Universal Service Guidelines and the assessment of the implementation of universal service/access strategies in the region should be sent to all CRASA Members for their further inputs and comments for a period of three (3) weeks and thereafter, the Secretariat can obtain an approval from the Executive Committee to forward the document to the SADC Secretariat for inclusion into the SADC ICT Ministers meeting agenda scheduled to take place in May/June 2011 in Gaborone, Botswana.
 

DEVELOPMENT OF TOOLKIT FOR THE BEST PRACTICES IN UNIVERSAL SERVICE AND ACCESS
 
The AGM was invited to note the draft Toolkit on Best Practices on Toolkit on Best Practices on Universal Access Funding and Universal Service Fund Implementation.
The AGM was also to note that the Executive Committee has approved that the draft Toolkit on Best Practices Toolkit on Best Practices on Universal Access Funding and Universal Service Fund Implementation should be sent to all CRASA Members for their further inputs and comments for a period of three (3) weeks and thereafter, the Secretariat can obtain an approval from the Executive Committee to forward the document to the SADC Secretariat for inclusion into the SADC ICT Ministers meeting agenda scheduled to take place in May/June 2011 in Gaborone, Botswana.
