IPv6 and Internet of Things (IoT) Networks

• ​​MUST is a University setup by the government of Malaysia jointly with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to bring growth of technology and science related postgraduate education into Malaysia. One of the key focus areas of MUST today is Next Generation Internet Communications. MUST has a MSc and PhD in Computer Science (Internet Engineering). This field is directly related to areas like IPv6 and IoT. MUST is also now focusing on Industry 4.0 related courses, of which, IoT is a major component.
• The main goal of the project is to assist Member States by supporting smooth and well managed transition from IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) to IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) for Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, IPv6 for 5G, IPv6 for Industry 4.0, services and applications deployments, raising awareness through conducting  technical assistance, trainings and/or workshops on the above mentioned domains. ​​

• ITU/BDT and MUST has also put in place a special program to train the trainers on ”IPv6 Over 5G Networks” (To assist Developing Countries to implement their 5G mobile and/or fixed Networks. The workshops covers both theory and practical trainings and it is recommended for 5G Mobile Technical Officers, IoT Designers, IoT Developers, IoT Implementers, IT Managers, IT Auditors and anyone who is ready to master the steps required to implement IPv6 over 5G Networks​):

​In the Africa region, assistance was provided in setting up Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) testbeds in Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Cameroon to be used as sub-regional test beds for IPv4 to IPv6 migration.

A feasibility study was conducted on IPv6 test beds improvement and IPv6 Roadmap was developed for Mongolia and Brunei Darussalam. 

BDT also provided assistance in the​ creation of national IXPs, e.g. developing model interconnection as a basis for formulating National and Regional IXPs, as in the case of Guatemala; strengthening capabilities of the national IXPs in Montenegro and the National Internet Exchange in Timor Leste.

Another sub-regional IXP is under consideration with Djibouti Telecom using their New Data Center and different optical cables.​
