Introduction
The International Telecommunication Union organized a workshop on "Machine Learning for 5G and beyond" that was hosted by Intel and take place on 7 August 2018 in San Jose, United States. Machine Learning (ML), which is at the core of artificial intelligence, is becoming one of the key technologies in the future telecommunications networks. However, applying ML in wireless networks poses some fundamental challenges. Addressing these challenges requires the development of new ML methods that are amenable to distributed implementation and deliver robust results using small data sets and under variable latency conditions. This workshop was the third in a series of workshops linked to the ITU Focus Group on Machine Learning for Future Networks Including 5G (FG-ML5G). The aim of these workshops was to provide a platform for key players from the industry and the academia to discuss possible ML requirements for wireless networks, to promote the development of new ML methods that meet these requirements, and to identify gaps in research and standardization that need to be addressed in order to bring ML into wireless networks. The workshop was followed by the third meeting of the Focus Group on Machine Learning for Future Networks including 5G (FG-ML5G) that was held from 8-10 August 2018 in the same venue.

Target Audience
Participation in the workshop is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country which is a member of ITU who wishes to contribute to the work. This includes individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations. The workshop is free of charge.
