To kick off the 3rd meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on AI for autonomous and assisted driving (FG-AI4AD), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organized a workshop, which explored what data and metrics really need to ensure safety in future autonomous driven vehicles. The workshop took place electronically on 16 September 2020 and was followed on 17 September by the FG-AI4AD official meeting.
The session included a brief introduction to a new ethical thought experiment, called The Molly Problem, which is being used to shape the requirements for the data and metrics under consideration within FG-AI4AD.

Objectives
The workshop provided an opportunity to learn what data is considered essential by the worldwide community in order to deploy future autonomous and assisted driving. OAMs, researchers, academics as well as private sector and governments were engaged in discussions, aiming to brainstorm on a set of minimum requirements for data and metrics. The ITU focus group, scheduled to start officially the next day, benefitted  from the studies and opinion expressed.

Target Audience
A multi-stakeholder approach is considered instrumental in embarking on the journey for autonomous driving. The focus group and its workshops were freely open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from an ITU member country. This included  individuals who are members of international, regional and national organizations.
