Eighth SG13 Regional Workshop for Africa "Standardization and Future Networks: Opportunities for Africa beyond 2020"

The International Telecommunication Union organized the Eighth SG13 Regional Workshop for Africa "Standardization and Future Networks: Opportunities for Africa beyond 2020" taking place on 1 June 2021 from 10h00 to 15h00 CEST.​ The workshop was followed by the ITU-T Study Group 13 Regional Group for Africa (SG13RG-AFR) meeting taking place virtually on 2 June 2021. The workshop aimed to give an overview of SG13 standardization work in areas of currently high interest, namely, IMT‑2020 and beyond IMT-2020 networks, autonomous networks, cloud computing, data handling, and quantum enhanced networking, trustworthy networking, and to share the main issues and standardization priorities of African countries in relation with these topics. 

The workshop also highlighted the main challenges that African countries are facing in adopting future networks technologies and in getting more involved in the standardization process and discussed possible measures to help Africa to overcome these challenges and to take advantage of opportunities arising from standardization and the future networks beyond 2020. ​​​​Participants were able to share their viewpoints, findings, latest research, and experience.​
Participation in the  regional workshop was open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU and who wished to contribute to the work. This includes individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations.
Participation was free of charge.​
