Chaouki T. ABDALLAH

​​Professor Chaouki T. Abdallah is the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR) at the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a direct report to President G.P. "Bud" Peterson and a member of the president's cabinet, the EVPR serves as chief research officer for the Institute. This position provides overall leadership for the research, economic development, and related sttpport units within Georgia Tech.

Professor Abdallah began his college career at the Faculté d'ingénierie of the Université Saint-Joseph in Lebanon, then obtained a bachelor of engineering (B.E.) degree from Youngstown State University in 1981, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1982 and 1988, respectively. He joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of New Mexico (UNM), where he served as professor of electrical and computer engineering. Between 2005 and 2011, Professor Abdallah was the ECE department chair, and he served as provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at UNM from 2011 to 2016. In 2017-18, he served as acting president, interim president, and finally the 22nd president of UNM. On September 1, 2018, he joined Georgia Tech as its EVPR.

Professor Abdallal, conducts research and teaches courses in the general area of systems theory with a focus on control, communications, and computing systems. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, .national laboratories, and various companies. He served as the general chair of the 2008 CDC, the premier IEEE conference in decision and control. Professor Abdallah, who is fluent in English, French, and Arabic, is a senior member of IEEE and a recipient of that organization's prestigious Millennium Medal.
