Question 12/13

Question 12/13 - Distributed service networking
(Continuation of Question 19/13)
Motivation
Distributed Service Networking (DSN) is based upon the use of a collection of nodes organized in a peer-to- peer (P2P) or other distributed fashion and the links between the nodes for the purpose of enabling multimedia services and applications.
In a DSN environment, resources, including data and instances of service logic, are distributed in the nodes throughout the whole network.
Distributed technology may be used to create an overlay network which has an ability to share resources between different nodes and links within a managed network deployment.
DSN has the potential of providing operators with improved scalability/ubiquity and reliability compared with traditional centralized information and communication processing. Through DSN, it is possible to avoid single-point failures, deploy resource in optimal locations and utilizing the capabilities of different nodes even including user devices. Furthermore, DSN allows self-configuring, self-managing, and self-healing, which results in service delivery with better performance and reduced cost.
This Question will study DSN based on distributed computing and networking technology.

Question
Study items to be considered include, but are not limited to:
  • What modifications or enhancements to existing Recommendations on DSN need to be developed in response to new market requirements?
  • What new service and functional requirements should be supported by distributed services networking?
  • What is the architectural framework for distributed services networking?
    The following aspects should be considered:
    • distributed service control functions;
