It was noted that some Member States were of the view that identification aspects and security should not be part of SG20 future activities, while other Member States expressed opposite views highlighting the importance and merit of keep studying them in SG20. No consensus was reached regarding the removal of identification and security aspects from the mandate of SG20. Further deliberations are still needed to finally conclude on these referred issues.
The output of the WTSA-24 preparations sessions is contained in
TD756-R3 and
TD757-R3. This TD was presented during the SG20 plenary that took place on 20 September 2023 and it was agreed that it will be used for future updates on the points of guidance, ToR of Questions, SG20 mandate and lead roles. A series of WTSA-24 preparation interim sessions are planned to take place in 2023-2024. The exact dates will be communicated by TSB via email reflector.
Focus Group related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) for Digital Agriculture
FG-AI4A Advisor, Ms Mythili Menon presented the FG-AI4A Progress Report (from February to August 2023), as contained in TD894. The Progress Report provided information on the outcomes of the third and fourth meetings of FG-AI4A, including the updated FG-AI4A structure. It also included a proposed timeline for the completion of its deliverables. The progress report was approved.
During the SG20 plenary, FG-AI4A submitted its completed deliverable on “Glossary - Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) for Digital Agriculture”, contained in
TD830. After discussions, the deliverable was approved during the SG20 plenary held on 20 September 2023.
It was also noted that the FG-AI4A developed a Module on Digital Agriculture together with FAO which has been included in the Toolkit on Digital Transformation for People-Oriented Cities and Communities available at:
https://toolkit-dt4c.itu.int/
Collaboration matters and information sharing
- The updates on the United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) Initiative was presented during the JCA IoT and SC&C meeting, as contained in
TD897.
Joint IEC-ISO-ITU Smart Cities Task Force (J-SCTF)
TD899 on “Update on Joint IEC-ISO-ITU Smart Cities Task Force (J-SCTF) activities" was presented during the JCA IoT and SC&C meeting.
Correspondence Group for Artificial intelligence of Things Activities (CG-AIoT)
A CG-AIoT session took place on 13 September 2023, 16:00-17:30 hours, Arusha time.

During the SG20 plenary and Liaison Statement session held on 20 September 2023, the meeting report (TD1066) was approved.
CG-AIoT concluded its activities and the following Technical Paper on “Challenges of and Guidelines to Standardization on Artificial Intelligence of Things" was approved, as contained in
TD973-R1.

Joint Coordination Activity on Internet of Things and Smart Cities and Communities (JCA-IoT and SC&C)
The twenty-eight meeting of the JCA-IoT and SC&C took place on 12 September 2023, under the Chairmanship of Mr Toru Yamada. All the meeting documents can be found
here. The Final Report of the 28th JCA-IoT and SC&C meeting can be found
here and was approved during the SG20 plenary held on 20 September 2023.

TD908 – JCA-IoT and SC&C Draft LS/o/r on collaboration between JCA-IoT and SC&C and CTIA Town Square (reply to CTIA-LS1) [to CTIA Town Square].
The next JCA IoT SC&C meeting is planned to take place in conjunction with the next SG20 meeting in 2024.
Promotion activities and bridging the standardization gap

The SG20 Newcomer's Session took place on 12 September 2023 in Arusha, Tanzania. Mr Marco Carugi, Q2/20 Rapporteur and ITU-T SG20 Mentor delivered a series of presentations which are contained in TD898 and are available HERE.
- A Special Session of ITU Focus Group on metaverse (FG-MV) took place on 12 September 2023 in Arusha, Tanzania. The Special Session provided an open platform for the African region to discuss their unique metaverse challenges and opportunities, to ensure that the metaverse is developed for the benefit of all.
- The
3rd ITU Forum on Cities and the metaverse: shaping a citiverse for all took place on 13 September 2023 in Arusha, Tanzania. The Forum concluded with a Call to Action available HERE.
