Final joint call for proposals for next-generation video coding standardization

In the context of arrangements for the new joint collaborative team on video coding standardization, the JCT-VC, ITU-T Q6/16 (VCEG) and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11 (MPEG) reached agreement to issue an official final joint call for submissions on video coding technology with substantially increased compression capability relative to existing Recommendations | International Standards. This joint Call for Proposals (CfP) was developed through coordination between SG16/Q6 (VCEG) and SC29/WG11 (MPEG) and can be found here.

Companies and organizations that have pre-registered in response to the previous Preliminary Call issued in November 2009 have been invited to submit proposals in response to this final Call.

Timeline of CfP

2010/01/22 Final Call for Proposals
2010/01/22 Formal registration period opens. An invoice for the testing fee will be sent by the test facility upon registration.
2010/02/15 Formal registration period ends
2010/02/22 Coded test material shall be available at the test site. By this date, the payment of the testing fee is expected to be finalized.
(Note: People who formally registered will receive instructions regarding how to submit the coded materials. If material is received later, the proposal may be excluded from testing.)
2010/03/02 Subjective assessment starts
2010/04/12 Registration of documents describing the proposals.
(Note: Contact persons will provide information about document submission process. Note that submitted documents will be made publicly available. Exceptions to public availability will be considered on a case by case basis upon request by the contributor.)
2010/04/13 Submission of documents
2010/04/15 Cross-checking of bitstreams and binary decoders (participation mandatory for proponents)
2010/04/16 Subjective test results available within standardization body
2010/04/16-23 Evaluation of proposals at standardization meeting
(Note: Proponents are requested to attend this standardization meeting. The starting date may be postponed by one day, participants will be notified.)
