Bryn Balcombe Chief Strategy Officer, Roborace Bryn Balcombe is the Chief Strategy Officer for Roborace, a motorsport competition for human and AI drivers, designed to accelerate the research and development of Vehicle Intelligence and human machine interfaces required for transportation of the future. His previous experience comes from Formula One where he architected and patented vehicle to infrastructure communication systems and developed the F1 Group’s first global media network. He has also consulted on technology strategy for organisations including the BBC and McCann Worldgroup and has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering & Vehicle Design.

Oren serves as Senior Vice President, Software Platforms Product Business Unit (PBU) at HARMAN, and as General Manager of HARMAN Israel. HARMAN designs and engineers connected products and solutions for automakers, consumers, and enterprises worldwide, including connected car systems, cybersecurity solutions, audio and visual products, enterprise automation solutions and services supporting the Internet of Things. Teodor Buburuzan Device Connectivity (EECP/3), Volkswagen Dr. Teodor Buburuzan is a leading communications engineer with Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany. His main area of interest currently lies with developing and integrating hardware and software connectivity solutions for the Volkswagen Group's vehicle projects. He is also responsible for providing the technical and commercial framework for V2X technologies (like IEEE 802.11p, LTE-V2X and 5G) and for integrating them with the overall Volkswagen connectivity strategy. Before joining the Connected Car department of the Technical Development, he was active as a senior researcher within Volkswagen Group Research and working on topics related to connected and automated driving. Dr. Teodor Buburuzan holds a PhD-Title on Wireless Communication Networks from the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany, and a Computer Science Diploma from the "Al.I.Cuza" University in Iasi, Romania.
André Cardote Head of Product Management, Veniam André Cardote is the Head of Product Management at Veniam. He received his Ph.D. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering / Wireless Networks from the University of Aveiro in 2014. Aline Gouget Technical Advisor, Advanced Cryptography, Gemalto Aline Gouget is Technical Advisor at Gemalto on Advanced Cryptography. She is in charge of the security analysis of cryptographic mechanisms and protocols, solving critical issues for different industrial sectors and also designing innovative solutions. Her research topics include quantum-safe cryptography, homomorphic encryption, IoT security and privacy, and blockchain technologies. Eddy Hartog Head of Unit, Smart Mobility and Living in DG Communication Networks, Content and Technology Mr Hartog has Dutch nationality and was born and raised in Utrecht (the Netherlands). He obtained a degree in political economics at the Erasmus University (Rotterdam) and subsequently a post-graduate degree at the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium). He has worked in the European Commission since 1989, first in Trade policy, then in Regional policy and in Maritime policy and lately in Information Society and Media policy. He is a Head of Unit since 2003. His present responsibility (since July 2016) is Head of Unit for Smart Mobility and Living in DG Communication Networks, Content and Technology. Alain Kornhauser Professor, Princeton University, USA Alain Kornhauser is Professor of Operations Research & Financial Engineering at Princeton University. He studied Aerospace Engineering at Penn State earning a BS and MS and Princeton, earning a PhD. In 1971 he joined the Aerospace Engineering faculty at U of Minnesota where he applied automation, network analysis and optimal control to the design of Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) Systems. He returned to Princeton in 1972 extending his pivotal work to more conventional forms of transportation. In 1979 he founded ALK Technologies, Inc. to help the private North American Railroad System emerge from bankruptcy by rationalizing its network structure and transitioning to emerging computer technology. ALK created the standard digital map database and computerized routing systems that continue to be relied upon by essentially all railroad and trucking companies in North America. He transitioned this technology to the consumer marketplace where he pioneered the development and market acceptance of GPS navigation systems. After 33.5 years, he sold ALK to Trimble Navigation in December 2012. At Princeton, Prof. Kornhauser is completing his 47th year on the faculty. He serves as Director of the Transportation Program where he continues his basic research in Transportation focused on the real-time operation of large fleets of driverless vehicles and on the development of Deep-Learning Neural Networks that safely drive road vehicles. Heled Princeton’s entries the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge and 2007 Urban Challenge. Today he is particularly focused on the use of aautonomousTaxis to deliver ubiquitous affordable mobility to everyone, especially economically challenged households. He is Faculty Chair of Princeton Autonomous Vehicle Engineering (PAVE), Editor of the Smart Driving Cars Newsletter, Organizer of the Annual Princeton SmartDrivingCars Summits and Board Chair of the Advanced Transit Association (ATRA). In addition to his teaching and research duties he serves as the ORFE’s Department’s Director of Undergraduate Studies. Professor Kornhauser completed 14 NYC Marathons.

Prior to that, Julien led the European Business Development and Sales Operations at Parrot Automotive. His experience also includes working for Tier 1 Audio and Navigation suppliers such as Clarion and Parrot Automotive and automotive OEMs such as Nissan where he defined cross-car-line audio, Bluetooth, and navigation strategies in cooperation with Renault. Julien was also at Connexis where he rolled out in mass production voice & data services for BMW Assist.
Anne Mellano VP of Operations and Co-founder, Bestmille As VP of Operations and cofounder, Anne oversees Bestmile’s operational infrastructure and manages the company’s day-to-day business and marketing operations. She is a civil engineer with specialization in innovative transportation systems. Prior to founding Bestmile, Anne worked in an urban planning office in Lausanne as a Transport Engineer where she was in charge of project management for two of the first autonomous mobility projects in Europe, ultimately developing with cofounder Raphaël Gindrat the concept of the Bestmile Mobility Services Platform to enable autonomous vehicles to work together as intelligent fleets. Anne directs Bestmile’s role in Swissand European Union government-sponsored mobility projects including the EU’s ambitious AVENUE project to bring autonomous mobility services to multiple European cities. She speaks around the world advocating for safe, efficient, accessible mobility for all. Anne holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation from the EPFL.
Michael Meyer Research Manager, Ericsson Eurolab, Aachen Dr. Michael Meyer holds the position of a Research Manager at the Ericsson Eurolab, Aachen. Within the global Ericsson Research organization, he is responsible for the research on Radio Network Architecture and Protocols. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 1996. The same year he started as research engineer at Ericsson Eurolab. In 2004 he was awarded the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award. Dr. Meyer has an extensive background in mobile communication systems due to his work on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G systems. He was deeply involved in the LTE concept development and standardization in 3GPP. In addition, he has been active in establishing various research projects on German (5GNetMobil) or EU level (METIS, 5GCAR, 5GCroCo). His current research interests focus around 5G and its relevance for vertical applications like automotive. He published more than 30 publications and holds more than 90 patents.
Koji Nakao Rep. ITU-T SG17, NICT, Japan Koji Nakao received the B.E. degree of Mathematics from Waseda University, in Japan, in 1979. Since joining KDDI in 1979, Koji has been engaged in the research on communication protocol, and information security technology for telecommunications in KDDI laboratory. After 2003, Koji has moved to KDDI head office to construct and manage its security systems. In 2004, he has started to additionally work for NICT (National Information Communication Technologies). His present positions are "Information Security Fellow" to manage all the security issues required in KDDI and "Group Leader" to manage research activities for network security technologies in NICT. As for standardization activities, Koji is currently working for a vice-chair of SG17 and a vice-chair of FG Cloud in ITU-T and also acting for a national convener of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC27/WG4 in Japan.
Walter Nissler UNECE Walter Nissler is Chief of the Vehicle Regulations and Transport Innovations Section of the Transport Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Before, he worked for six years at the European Commission in the area of road safety and for twenty years in national administration dealing with vehicle testing and type approval. His educational background is mechanical engineering with a University degree in vehicle engineering.

Russell Shields Chair, Ygomi Russ Shields is Chair of Ygomi. Mr Shields is a Board Member of the ITS World Congress, founding Board Member of ITS America, former Chair of the TRB Communications Committee, former Convener of ISO/TC204/WG16, and Co‑Chair of the ITU Collaboration on ITS Communications Standards. Mr Shields is also a member of the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board, a Presidential advisory committee. He received the 1998 SAE‑Delco Electronics ITS Award, was named an SAE Fellow in 2007, was inducted into the inaugural class of ITS America’s Hall of Fame in 2008, and was named the inaugural U.S. member of the ITS World Congress Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2008, to recognize his more than 40 years defining new industries, the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business awarded him the Distinguished Alumni Award in Entrepreneurship.
Johannes Springer CEO, 5GAA Dr Johannes Springer is responsible for the 5G Automotive Program at Deutsche Telekom in the Group Technology Headquarter. Dr Springer studied Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering at the Berlin Technical University. After his doctorate in 1992 he was in charge at Aachen University of Technology (RWTH). In 1998 he joined Deutsche Telekom Group in various management positions. From 2004 to 2010 and since 2006 he worked for Toll Collect as CTO/COO, the GPS/GSM based electronic tolling operator for heavy trucks in Germany. From 2011 to 2016 he was Vice President Technology and Solution Design within Strategic Business Unit Connected Car in T-Systems.
Jean Todt FIA Jean Todt is President of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de L'Automobile) - the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s motoring organisations. The federation works across two key interlinked areas of activity – Sport and Mobility. In the realm of Mobility, the FIA aims to ensure that safe, affordable and clean systems of transport are available to all. He was elected to the position in October 2009 and re-elected in December 2013. He made road safety a priority of the federation through the FIA Action for Road Safety campaign, launched in 2011 in support of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The campaign is based on global advocacy for road safety, supporting action on the ground by its 250 member clubs in nearly 150 countries, building institutional and commercial partnerships as well as mobilising the motor sport community to promote road safety. • On 29 April 2015, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Jean Todt as his first ever Special Envoy for Road Safety. • Jean Todt is also a Member of the Board of Trustees of the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society. • Jean Todt began his career in 1966 as a world championship rally co-driver, before joining Peugeot as Sporting Director in 1981. In 1993, he joined Ferrari Racing, later taking responsibility for all motor sport activity for the Ferrari-Maserati Group. He was appointed General Manager of Ferrari in 2004 and at the end of 2006 became Chief Executive Officer of the company until 2008. • In 2011, Jean Todt was named Grand Croix de la Légion d'Honneur, the highest honour of the French Republic. He is Chairman of the Board of the Suu Foundation, a humanitarian organization dedicated to advancing the health and education of the people of Myanmar founded by Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Peace Institute (IPI). He is also one of the Founders and the Vice-President of ICM, an institute devoted to medical research for brain and spinal cord disorders. • Jean Todt was born on 25 February 1946 at Pierrefort, Cantal (France). He has one son, Nicolas, and shares his life with actress and film producer Michelle Yeoh, who is Global Road Safety Ambassador.
Joost Vantomme Smart Mobility Director, ACEA / OICA Joost Vantomme is the Smart Mobility Director of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), which represents the 15 major Europe-based car, van, truck and bus makers. Joost serves also as member of the Supervisory Board of ERTICO (advocating intelligent mobility solutions) and of the Board of the Mobility as a Service Alliance (MaaS). Joost has over 25 years’ experience in legal, regulatory and public affairs. He served as legal and regulatory affairs director in the telecommunications, postal, logistics and automotive sector. He had leading policy making roles in European associations such as PostEurop and FEDMA, as well as at the UN level (UPU). Joost has also been member of the cabinet of the Belgian Minister of Economy and director at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, an EU consultancy firm.
