Over 377,000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 11,400 celebrations of International Girls in ICT Day in 171 countries worldwide.

In Thailand, the Girls in ICT initiative aims to encourage girls and young women [aged 12-24] to pursue studying STEM, enhance their level of digital skills, and raise awareness of the meaningful and safe use of ICT.

The celebration is organized by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (Office of the NBTC), the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office in Thailand (UNRCO in Thailand), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with partnerships with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), the National Broadcasting Services Thailand (NBT Thailand), Wikimedia Thailand, Digital Council of Thailand (DCT), and the Centre of Digital Technology and Society of Thammasat University throughout April and June 2022 in conjunction with a series of the training programme.

The Opening Ceremony was held in hybrid mode at Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit and in hybrid mode via Zoom platform on 28 April 2022.

These activities include the leadership programme, STEAM female secondary school teachers networking, digital literacy, media literacy and disinformation and ICT for migrant girls, with nearly 300 students participating from 28 April to 6 July.
