Multistakeholder Consultation Group

A platform for consultation and engagement between UNGIS and all stakeholder communities.

The United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Multistakeholder Consultation Group (MCG), designed to strengthen multistakeholder engagement and contribution.

The UNGIS MCG responds directly to expectations expressed by stakeholders through UNGA Resolution A/RES/80/173, the 29th annual session of the CSTD, WSIS+20 Review inputs, the annual WSIS Forum, and UNGIS related events at UNGA, with a view to fostering inclusive multistakeholder dialogue.

The UNGIS MCG is created to provide a platform for consultation and engagement between UNGIS and all stakeholder communities — governments, private sector, civil society, the technical community, academia, and international organizations.

The MCG's purpose is to:

  • Facilitate regular information sharing on UNGIS priorities
  • Gather perspectives and feedback from diverse stakeholders

The MCG is solely an advisory and consultative platform, designed to support dialogue and collaboration.

How the MCG Will Work?

Regular virtual consultations (2–3 per year) on thematic issues aligned with the WSIS Action Lines

In person engagement during the WSIS Forum each year

Written inputs on specific topics when requested by UNGIS

Public summaries of discussions

In keeping with the mandates of UNGIS, the MCG will have no decision making authority and no role in internal UNGIS coordination. It is designed to complement UNGIS discussions by ensuring that multistakeholder perspectives are heard.

Duration of the MCG

The first cohort of the MCG will operate for an initial two year cycle (2026–2028), aligned with the early implementation phase of the renewed WSIS mandate.

Group Composition

The MCG will consist of 15–20 members, selected to ensure balanced representation across stakeholder groups:

  • Governments
  • Private sector
  • Civil society
  • Technical community
  • Academia
  • International and regional organizations
