Subregional workshop on implementation of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Pacific island countries

The Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Pacific Islands Workshop co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA) held in Nadi, Fiji from 19-23 November 2018. 

As part of the weeklong event, the ITU Sub-regional Workshop on ICT Statistics & IDI Indicators also co-organized by ITU, ESCAP and PITA held on 22-23 November, following on from the ESCAP Statistics Workshop on 21 November 2018.

The objective of the ITU Workshop on ICT Statistics & IDI Indicators Workshop (22-23 November 2018) is to strengthen the capacity of countries to produce statistics on telecommunications and ICTs. The workshop is intended for participants who are responsible for collecting and/or producing such statistics in ministries, regulatory agencies and national statistical offices.

The workshop included discussions of the methodology of ICT indicators and the experiences by countries in the collection, analysis and presentation of ICT data. The workshop targets to raise awareness of the relevance of the indicators for evidence-based policy formulation and in assessing the implementation of particular policy initiatives. 

ITU provide one full fellowship to one participant duly authorized by the respective ITU Administrations from eligible Least Developed Countries and eligible Low-Income Developing Countries from the Pacific Islands countries, subject to available budget to facilitate their participation for the week.

This workshop will be held at the same venue as the ESCAP-ITU-PITA as the ITU-PITA Sub-Regional Workshop on Digital skills development in the Pacific. ​​
