As part of its commitment to integrating ICT innovation into national development agendas, the ITU, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization have joined forces to publish country case studies on ICT-centric innovation ecosystems, with the aim of providing a roadmap for countries’ journeys to a digital economy. ICT-Centric Innovation Ecosystem — Country Review: Republic of Moldova looks at a nation that has embraced ICT, with strong links to global markets encouraging research and helping to forge a strong “hard” infrastructure in terms of connectivity and electricity. Drawing on interviews with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, the report finds that ICT innovation in Moldova has grown significantly, with the potential for digital transformation if it can address issues with bureaucracy and transparency, cater more for domestic users as well as international markets, and stop the “brain drain” of skilled people moving abroad for work.
