Summary: Digital Twin Network (DTN) is being developed to help the physical network realize low-cost trial, intelligent decision-making, efficient innovation and predictive maintenance. As the base of realizing various capabilities of the digital twin network, data is the cornerstone of building the digital twin network. By building a unified data repository as a single source of truth for the digital twin network, it can efficiently store time-series past and real-time data such as the configuration, topology, status, logs, and user business of the physical network, providing data support for the network digital twin entity. Therefore, it is necessary to standardize the framework and functional requirements of DTN’s data domain construction, including network data collection, storage, processing and management, as well as unified data service interfaces. Only in this way can we avoid the difficulty of building digital twin network due to different data formats among different manufacturers. At the same time, the efficiency of network data collection, storage and service in the digital twin network can be improved through unified technical specifications. This Recommendation of ‘framework and functional requirements of data domain in network digital twin layer’ can help industry achieve below key benefits. Reach a consensus and unified understanding of DTN’s data domain, including framework, network data types, key components, and the data handing procedures of data domain. Specify the functional requirements in DTN’s data domain including network data collection, network data storage, network data processing, and network data management. Provide guidance on how to exchange data between data repository in DTN and legacy data systems. Lay a foundation for future DTN system construction, network data modeling and other related DTN researches or recommendations.
