In recent years, large-scale network disconnections are frequently caused by network resilience problems. The causes include incorrect route design, network hardware replacement, network signalling storm, etc. The future network resilience use cases and capability requirements need to be defined by analysing the key elements of future network resilience from different dimensions.
Currently, there are some standards that define the generic cyber resilience. General network resilience concepts and scenarios have been standardized in various SDOS, such as ITU-T, ISO, NIST, and ENISA. The general measurement framework, KPI, and measurement methods have been defined (NIST ENISA). Similarly, NFV resilience requirements have been defined in ETSI NFV standards. However, the definitions of future network resilience technical requirements are missing in existing standards.
This New Technical Report is going to propose two levels of capability requirements of future network resilience. It references the general concept of existing network resilience and combines the general resilience goals with future network architectures, technologies and services. It identifies the key elements of future network resilience by analysing use cases and defines the technical requirements.
