Summary: For dedicated network of vertical industries beyond IMT-2020, such as smart city, smart industry, smart education and smart traffic, Y.3114 define lightweight core network, which is a core network of a dedicated network and builds on the integration of IMT-2020 core network functions. It is a high efficiency, extensibility, high value-added and intelligence, as a practical and low-cost solution for the operators. The internal details of the resulting network functions of the lightweight core, such as internal functionalities, internal interfaces, internal protocols and internal procedures, are hidden from one another. In addition, with proper customization of the lightweight core network functions (e.g. activation or de-activation of some of their internal functionalities), the complexity of the lightweight core can be reduced, its performance can be optimized and the requirements of application domains can be supported. These characteristics make the lightweight core architecture a core network architecture adapted to application domains in the context of future networks including IMT-2020.
