Smart regulatory focus on broadband roll out and innovation
ITU Global Symposium for Regulators and Industry to meet in Colombia
Geneva, 15 July 2011 - The Global Symposium for Regulators will meet in Armenia City, Colombia 21-23 September 2011. The Symposium will be preceded by the Global Industry Leaders’ Forum on 20 September that will provide a top level international platform for industry leaders and investors to share their views with Regulators and policy makers.
The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR), which meets annually, is a forum for regulators to share their views and experiences. The meeting fosters an open dialogue between the worldwide community of regulators and the private sector, investors and consumers.
The Global Industry Leaders’ Forum provides a platform for dynamic and “open dialogue” among participants to share views on major issues facing the ICT sector.
Both events are organized by ITU in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the Communications Regulatory Commission of Colombia.

Participants in the 11th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) and the 4th Global Industry Leaders’ Forum will examine smart regulatory measures that are needed to promote the roll out of broadband, foster innovation, and address the complexities and challenges of the broadband ecosystem. GSR-11 will have an impact on future ICT markets worldwide. |
| Who: |
The
international ICT regulatory community, policy makers, industry leaders, and
regional and international organizations from around the world will participate
along with ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré, the Director of ITU’s
Telecommunication Development Bureau Brahima Sanou and the Director of ITU’s
Radiocommunication Bureau, François Rancy.
President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos will inaugurate GSR and participate in a high-level debate on 21 September.
The GSR will be chaired by Mr Cristhian Lizcano Ortíz, Executive Director of the Communications Regulatory Commission of Colombia (CRC). |
