ITU Workshop on Emergency Broadcasting, 21 November

Report highlights role of radio and TV in transmitting critical information

Geneva, 11 November 2013 – ITU will hold a Workshop on 21 November 2013 on Emergency Broadcasting and launch a Report on the critical role played by terrestrial radio and television broadcasting in the rapid dissemination of emergency information.

As the number of natural disasters and other large-scale emergency situations around the world (such as tornadoes, hurricanes, tropical storms, floods, snowstorms, earthquakes, tsunamis) are on the rise, it is absolutely essential that the public is provided necessary information quickly, comprehensively and accurately. Terrestrial television and radio broadcasters provide the fastest, reliable and most effective means of delivering information in these critical situations.

What: 

Workshop on Emergency Broadcasting: Launch of ITU Report

When: 

21 November 2013, 14:00 – 17:00

Where: 

ITU Tower Building, Room C, Place des Nations, Geneva

Why: 

Focus on the critical role of terrestrial radio and television broadcasting in the rapid dissemination of emergency information

Who: 

Broadcasters and experts will discuss aspects of emergencies and how broadcasting fulfills these requirements most reliably and effectively
