Title | Big Data for Measuring the Information Society
Description | ITU is the key official source for global information and communication technology (ICT) statistics. To complement ITU’s current official data sources, methodologies, and data sets used to produce these statistics and related benchmarks, ITU is pursuing innovative ways to utilize big data as a new data source. Under this project, ITU will carry out pilot studies in selected countries to produce new and policy-relevant ICT statistics with big data. The results of this pilot project will be presented to the Expert Groups on ICT Indicators and then to the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium in 2016 for paving the way forward to the adoption of big data as a source of official statistics.
