Project No 7GLO07062
Title Malawi Multi-purpose Community Telecentres Project
Description This project, which is a sub-project of the project "MCT Project for Special Initiative", will support efforts by the Government of Malawi to extend ICT access and services to rural communities by providing basic sets of accessible ICT equipment, facilities and training to rural areas. The facilities will include assistive technologies such as Braille printers and other specific technologies to enhance accessibility to ensure ICTs for all. Achievements

With the implementation of this project, a total of 12 Multi-purpose Community Telecenters (MCTs) were established. These centers provide internet, photocopying, fax, laminating, binding and printing services and they are, in most cases, the first to provide such services in their districts. The MCTs had positively impacted people living in the 12 rural areas that were covered under this project. MCTs served as a catalyst to create ICT awareness and to create new opportunities of employment and income generation.
