As part of BDT activities on the implementation of Regional Initiatives projects approved by WTDC-06 (Res. 17 WTDC-06), within the framework of this project, BDT intends to assist the African countries to smoothly shift from Analogue to Digital broadcasting. The outputs of this project include: - Development of guidelines on transition from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting and Mobile TV, covering the regulatory, legislation, technology, network planning and customer awareness issues; - Development of roadmap for selected countries; - Enhanced skills through training for making master plan and network plan. |

| Achievements |
The project was successfully implemented and the results of the project included the following: - Guidelines for the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting: Guidelines were designed to provide information and recommendations on policy, regulation, technologies, network planning, customer awareness and business planning for the smooth introduction of digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTV) and mobile television broadcasting (MTV). It provides information on the digital migration approach, and actions required to the digital switch over process and can be used by all member states. The developed Guidelines can be accessed through the following link: http://www.itu.int/pub/D-HDB-GUIDELINES.01-2010/en - National Roadmap for the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television had been developed for Angola, Ethiopia, Mali and Gabon with the cooperation of experts and national roadmap team / working group of each country. - Workshops had been delivered and results were presented during the ATU-ITU Regional Workshop that took place on 1 December 2011. |
