Project No | 7RAS07024 |
Title | Centre of Excellence Network in the Asia-Pacific Region |
Description |
The aim of this project is to build a self-dependant mechanism in the Asia Pacific region, in order to strengthen capacity based network of self-dependent training Nodes. Each node will lead the design and implementation of a distinct training programme (Business management, Technology awareness, Spectrum management, Telecommunications regulation and Rural connectivity). It will bring together established training content providers (universities, technological institutions and training centres, among others) as well as service and technology providers that will offer on-line training solutions combined with face-to-face seminars. All Nodes will work regionally and complement each other in order to create a critical mass of courses, thus setting up a sound and self-sustainable capacity building environment in the Asia-Pacific region. |

Achievements |
The ITU Asia-Pacific Centres of Excellence (CoE) was established as a high quality capacity building brand in areas of ITU work. 5 CoEs were established initially in the areas of Business Management (MICT Thailand), Rural ICT Development (UUM, Malaysia), Technology Awareness (PNU, R.O. Korea), Policy and Regulation (PTA, Pakistan), Spectrum Management (MICT, I. R. Iran / TCI). 3 additional CoEs were later established in the areas of Cybersecurity (IMPACT), ICT Applications (MIC, Vietnam & Viettel) and Broadcasting (AIBD) as training needs grew in new areas. The ITU Asia-Pacific CoE network progressed towards sustainability with a mix of partnership support, complemented by revenue through fees. 100 trainings (69 face to face and 31 online) were conducted under ITU ASP CoE from March 2012 until December 2014. Each training had about 38 participants on average. The CoE face to face trainings achieved a higher than 80% satisfaction rate. |
