Capacity Building on an ICT centric innovation ecosystem

Project No 9GLO19100
Title Capacity Building on an ICT centric innovation ecosystem
Description

With the recent Resolution on ITU's role in fostering telecommunication/information and communication technology-centric innovation to support the digital economy and society and the new Strategic goal 4 on Innovation: Enable innovation in telecommunications/ICT in support of the digital transformation of society, adopted by ITU Member States at the Plenipotentiary Conference in Dubai 2018, there is need to accelerate capacity building of ITU membership on ICT centric innovation in order to accelerate achievement of the sustainable development goals.
As a result of previous investments from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT former MSIP), Republic of Korea, ITU has developed several tools and workflows (such as toolkit) on how to assess, and develop innovation ecosystem, and create innovation initiatives that strengthen the capacity of Member States to integrate ICT innovation in their national development agenda. Over a 100 stakeholders from 75 countries have already received training and certification, but greater impact can be achieved by focusing training within a country to catalyze change within a set ecosystem.
The project seeks to expand the benefits within more countries through capacity building of more national stakeholders in order to accelerate grassroots development of innovation initiatives that impact the growth of entrepreneurship, startups, small businesses, and contribute to the digital economy.
