Capacity Building through Centres of Excellence (CoEs)

The project strengthened global capacity development efforts by supporting the delivery of high-quality training through the ITU Academy and by facilitating the transition from the Centres of Excellence (CoE) programme to the ITU Academy Training Centres (ATC) programme. It contributed to the sustainability, quality assurance and continued expansion of ITU’s capacity development ecosystem.

The project supported the development and continuous improvement of training content across a broad range of digital development topics. More than twenty training modules were developed, significantly exceeding initial targets, and training materials were aligned with ITU Academy quality standards to ensure consistency and relevance across regions.

Through the project, a large number of training courses were adapted and delivered using ITU Academy standards and methodologies. More than fifty courses per year were aligned with these standards, helping improve the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of training opportunities available to ICT professionals and stakeholders worldwide.

The project also supported the successful establishment and operationalization of the new ATC programme following the conclusion of the CoE programme. Training institutions were onboarded and integrated into the new framework, with fourteen institutions joining the programme and contributing to the expansion of ITU’s global training network.

By supporting high-quality training delivery, strengthening institutional partnerships and enabling the successful transition to the ATC model, the project ensured continuity in ITU’s global capacity development activities and reinforced the long-term sustainability of its training and knowledge-sharing programmes.
