Digital Hope
Over 1 billion people, or approximately 15 percent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability. Eighty percent of them live in developing countries. The Digital Hope project is unique and innovative in many ways. It has began to target 20,000 victims of amputation in the aftermath of wars in Sierra Leone and drawing attention to the plight of other disabled individuals in a way never been tested before in this country by no other organization or company. The imaginative use of technology and app for disabled has at its pilot stage provided 1550 war amputees needed ICT skills so that they can rebuild their lives as well as their country, as well as raise the resources they need to carry out their dreams. The technology addresses the global challenge of access to learning and education for people with disability and this project distinguishes itself from other actors in similar field because of it's economic viability and largely humanitarian component. The pilot stage was support from an open innovation competition grant provided by UN ITU in Geneva.
