Interregional workshop on the ITU Handbook on mainstreaming gender in digital policies – Asia and the Pacific and CIS regions

Following the launch of the Handbook on mainstreaming gender in digital policies in March 2023, ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) organized an online workshop for Asia and the Pacific and CIS regions on 5 December 2023 to provide practical guidance and valuable insights designed for policymakers looking to ensure that gender-specific needs are taken into consideration in digital spaces.

Access to the workshop was limited to registered participants only.

How did the workshop empower participants?

  • Reflected awareness among practitioners on mainstreaming gender in digital policies. 
  • Shared insights to help policymakers understand how to best influence policy making processes and advocate for gender equality. 
  • Participants learned to use ITU’s Handbook on mainstreaming gender in digital policies and related tools to conduct national digital skills assessments, and for engagement and capacity development.

Target audience:


Considering that the issues of closing the gender digital divide are crosscutting in different fields and sectors, professionals from ministries in charge of ICT and regulatory agencies working on policy development and implementation of gender related programs are encouraged to participate. Especially targeted are representatives from these institutions that act as focal points for gender and/or digital inclusion.

Trainer biography:


Mario Filadoro is a consultant on gender, trade and sustainable development. Mario served as Gender and Digital Economy Officer with ITU. In this capacity, he conducted an assessment of gender in digital policies, strategies and regulations in three Least Developed Countries (LDCs) - Burundi, Ethiopia and Haiti. He led the development of ITU’s Handbook on Mainstreaming Gender in Digital Policies. Prior to ITU, he worked at the International Trade Centre (ITC), where he managed three EU-funded projects on the participation of women in international trade in goods and services.
