New Appendix III – Delay variation on unshared access lines
Appendix III of Recommendation ITU-T G.114 provides an introduction on the effect of different IP services on lines with limited bandwidth (e.g., DSL). It explains the mechanism of serialization delay, gives a (very general) overview over prioritization and shows how the maximum delay variation due to concurrent traffic can be calculated. The calculations shown in this appendix are valid for unshared lines only, shared lines are excluded. The intention of this appendix is to make standards developers aware of this behaviour.
