The ITU-T has established a new Focus Group under Study Group 16. This is known as the Full Service – VDSL (FS-VDSL) Focus Group.
The Focus Group was formally approved at the meeting of Study Group 16 in October 2002. The goal of the Focus Group is to develop
a set of ITU-T Recommendations to define a new multi-service video-centric network platform based upon VDSL delivery in the access
network, which will enable operators and service providers to quickly and economically provide end-users with a rich mix of video,
data, and voice services.
More information on the background to the Focus Group can be found here: http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups/com16/fs-vdsl/background.html and the Terms of Reference
for the Focus Group can be found here: http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups/com16/fs-vdsl/tor.html.
The Focus Group had its first meeting in San Francisco, CA, USA, 5-6 September 2002, and during this meeting it approved a set
of five FS-VDSL Focus Technical Group Specifications (FGTS) which can be found here:
http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups/com16/fs-vdsl/fgts.html. Some of the FS-VDSL FGTS will
be progressed into ITU-T Recommendations. In support of these activities, an email reflector and
an associated FTP area have been established. More details can be found here.
The FS-VDSL Focus Group developed a series of White Papers that provide an overview of the FS-VDSL specifications.
There can be found here: http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups/com16/fs-vdsl/wps.html.
The Focus Group also has its own web-site: http://www.fs-vdsl.net where further
information can be found.
