This specification defines video coding, audio coding and multiplexing specifications for digital broadcasting widely used in Japan, and constitutes an essential part of the Recommendation. Since this specification consists of huge number of pages, making reference saves a lot of paper in the printing process.

More than millions of receivers have been manufactured in Japan under this specification.

STD B-32 Version 2.1 was published in March 2007. It is an approved document by ARIB's Standard Assembly.
