1. Clear description of the referenced document:
Name: IEEE 802.3-2005
Title: IEEE Standard for Information technology - Telecommunications and information exchange between systems - Local and metropolitan area networks - specific requirements - Part 3: Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) Access Method and Physical Layer Specifications
2. Status of approval:
The referenced integrated version of the IEEE802.3 standard was approved in 2005.
3. Justification for the specific reference:
This specification has been developed by the IEEE and is used by the ITU-T without change. G.8261/Y.1361 defines timing aspects in packet networks, with particular focus on Ethernet networks. IEEE 802.3 specifies the basic Ethernet frame format and PHYs which can be used the transport the Ethernet frames.
4. Current information, if any, about IPR issues:
No known issues.
5. Other useful information describing the "Quality" of the document:
The referenced standard has completed the rigorous and comprehensive review and approval process of the IEEE standards development committee. It was approved and published in 2002, and the amendment was approved and published in 2004.
6. The degree of stability or maturity of the document:
The referenced standard has completed the rigorous and comprehensive review and approval process of the IEEE standards development committee. It was approved and published in 2002, and the amendment was approved and published in 2004. The IEEE802.3 standard was approved and published in 2002. The amendment (IEEE802.3ah) including the referenced text was approved and published in 2004.
7. Relationship with other existing or emerging documents:
None.
8. Any explicit references within that referenced document should also be listed:
