Title: IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks -- Part 15.4: Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPANs)
2. Status of approval:
Approved by IEEE-SA on 2011-06-16, superseded standard in 2015. Normative reference should not be made.
3. Justification for the specific reference:
The encryption scheme for MAC frame payload is based on the generic algorithm described in IEEE 802.15.4-2011 which itself references NIST FIPS Pub 197 (also normatively referenced in Rec. ITU-T Y.lorawan).
4. Current information, if any, about IPR issues:
No known issues (see section 6.1 at https://development.standards.ieee.org/myproject-web/public/view.html#pardetail/4240).

The document is in existence since 2011. Superseded by IEEE 802.15.4-2015 https://standards.ieee.org/ieee/802.15.4/5788/ (also superseded in 2020).
