Summary: Biometric information is a widely used for identifying individuals, utilizing verifiable physiological characteristics. However, these biometric traits can change over time due to various factors including aging, disease, and injury. Such biometric variability can have an impact on the performance of biometric identification and authentication. Therefore, it is essential to consider the types of biometric variability, their influential factors, and strategies that can be implemented to accommodate systems to biometric variability when implementing systems using biometrics. This Recommendation provides guidance on biometric variability management, utilizing connected information systems and adaptable solutions to improve the accuracy and reliability of biometric identification or authentication systems.
