Summary: Noting the popularization of digital twin applications and metaverse services, the convergence of virtual and physical worlds through the use of digital twins within the metaverse is emerging as a technical challenge. This challenge will be addressed by identifying service scenarios, defining relevant requirements, and specifying a reference model along with its functional entities that perform a set of functional roles involving data and information exchanges. Some data exchanges may involve digital twin-related actions, while others may occur with external systems or devices such as IoT devices, IoT gateways, application systems, management systems, and metaverse systems. This proposed interface model focuses specifically on data exchange associations among communication participants. It aims to ensure robust data and information flow between the metaverse’s digital twin objects and external entities, enhancing system interoperability and service operability across various platforms, systems, and devices. The interface model will be developed to be protocol-agnostic from a functional perspective and independent of any particular interface technology.
