Summary: ITU-R WP 5D has started the work on “IMT towards 2030 and beyond” by applying the well-proven IMT-process since 2021, and agreed on the overview timeline for IMT towards 2030 and beyond. ITU-T is responsible for the standardization of non-radio aspects of IMT systems. ITU-R M.2160-0 has defined “security and resilience” as one of the design principle and capability of IMT-2030 without more deeper analysis and content. So it’s necessary to start consider security of IMT-2030 in more details in ITU-T SG17. This technical report plans to analyze the key driving force of security of IMT-2030 based on the listed trend in ITU-R M.2160-0, and also analyze the security challenges and issues based on the use cases and capabilities defined in ITU-R M.2160-0. These analysis can help us figure out what will impact security considerations and what challenges and issues might exist for IMT-2030. Based on the analyzed security issues, considerations can be given on what standardization work can be considered to carry out in the future and the timeline based on the overall timeline. These will be helpful for further study in the future on formulating the details related to IMT-2030 security. This technical report can be used as a research guideline for the further development of IMT-2030 networks security related documents.
