Mr. Shields has a more than 35 year track record of successfully building new companies that define new industries. He is founder and principal of Ygomi LLC, which has many technology based subsidiaries. Mr. Shields is personally focusing on the development of a new business in the vehicle communications market. 

In 1969, Mr. Shields founded Shields Enterprises International (SEI), a successful 600 person IT services organization, now part of Ygomi. Mr. Shields remains Chair.

In 1980, he was a founder and COO of Cellular Business Systems, Inc. (CBSI) which was formed to provide billing and other back office processing and services to the newly emerging cellular telephone industry. CBSI is now Convergys (NYSE:CVG), a leading provider of outsourced billing services.

In 1985, Mr. Shields was a founder of Navigation Technologies (now Navteq NYSE:NVT), the world’s leading provider of map databases and related software for advanced transportation applications. He served as Navteq’s CEO until 2000 and as a member of its Board of Directors until 2004. 

Mr. Shields was the first President of the Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration (AMI C), which helped guide the vehicle manufacturing industry toward common specifications and interfaces for in vehicle multimedia products. He served two terms as Chair of the Communications Committee (A3A05) of the Transportation Research Board (National Research Council), and is Convenor of ISO TC204 WG16, responsible for developing standards for wide area ITS communications. Mr. Shields was a founding officer and is a director of ITS America. He was a founder and is a director of the ITS World Congress and was General Chair of the 1996 ITS World Congress, the first to be held in the United States. Mr. Shields has been a member (sometimes chair) of many committees of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and was recipient of the 1999 SAE Delco Electronics Intelligent Transportation Systems Award. 

Mr. Shields holds a BA in History from Wichita State University and an MA and MBA from the University of Chicago.
