Cyber Attack: Urgent Demand for Protecting our Infrastructure.
Abstract

In the last decade, the Internet has been drastically evolved to our critical infrastructure that supports various kinds of activities in our daily life. As arising lots of threats against confidence to the Internet in terms of security, there has been quite strong and urgent demand on protecting the infrastructure more securely. Of course, many research groups and standardization bodies are working very hard to develop security technology and engineering in the area of “network security.” However, as many areas of economies depend on this infrastructure, practical and well designed strategy and tactics have to be deployed to bring solutions that can cover operations of network services and also help much on governance of the infrastructure itself. In Japan, many organizations are working very hard on network security issues, however, with our experiences on multiple year operation of JPCERT/CC as our national CSIRT and organizing various activities working with our government and other Internet related organizations such as JPNIC as RIR, more harmonized activities should be coordinated. In this collaboration, common methods such as information sharing among those who are working in this network security area are highly required and this is the area where standardization bodies have to work more.
