Ask the Expert Session – Urban Intelligence Unveiled: AI Principles for Smart Cities

Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are becoming integral to enhancing efficiency and sustainability in urban environments. In cities, AI is employed to optimize various aspects of daily life, from transportation and energy management to public safety and healthcare. Intelligent traffic systems use AI algorithms to alleviate congestion, while smart energy grids dynamically adjust resource distribution based on demand patterns.

Given the vast potential application of AI within the urban ecosystem, the United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) initiative, under its Thematic Group on “AI in Cities”, supported by 19 United Nations agencies, is exploring how AI, in conjunction with other frontier technologies such as big data, IoT, cloud computing and robotics, can efficiently and effectively deliver urban services and operational processes.

For this Ask the Expert Session, we were joined by Dr Okan Geray, U4SSC Chair, to learn more about the new deliverable on “Guiding principles for artificial intelligence in cities“, which had been finalized under this Thematic Group.
