Mark Hidson
Director on Sustainable Procurement, ICLEI

Mark joined ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability in 2003. He is a member of ICLEI Europe’s Board of Directors and responsible for the sustainable economy and procurement work. Mark is the Global Director of ICLEI’s Sustainable Procurement Centre. For 27 years he has worked for, and on behalf of, local, regional and national governments in project, policy and strategy development on sustainability issues such as procurement, climate change and transport. Mark is Co-Chair of the One Planet Network Sustainable Procurement Programme, Vice-Chair of the International Green Purchasing Network and a member of the European Commission’s Green Public Procurement Advisory Group. Mark oversees ICLEI’s Global Lead City Network on Sustainable Procurement, the Procura+ – European Sustainable Procurement Network and ICLEI’s sustainable procurement Procura+ conference series. Mark has developed, managed and overseen many national, European and international projects on various sustainable development topics. Before joining ICLEI Mark worked in various local governments on topics such as Local Agenda 21, climate change, sustainable transport and community development. Mark has a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Science and a Masters in Environmental Management. ​
