Toru Yamada
Vice chairman of ITU-T Study Group 20, NEC Corporation

Dr. Toru Yamada joined NEC Corporation in 1997 and engaged in research and development of video codecs and video quality metrics. From 2006 to 2009, he was involved in standardization of video quality metrics in the VQEG (Video Quality Experts Group) and ITU-T SG9. In these activities, he contributed to develop ITU-T Recommendation J.249. Since 2011, he has been involved in standardization of IoT and Smart Cities in some organizations including oneM2M, ITU-T IoT-GSI, and ITU-T SG20. In April 2019 during the Study Period 2017-2020, he was appointed as the Vice-chair of ITU-T SG20. Since 2017, he has also been leading standardization discussion on IoT and Smart Cities in the Asia-Pacific region as the chair of EG IOT (Expert Group on Internet of Things Application/Services) in APT ASTAP (Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Standardization Program).
