The ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean is organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria. This event is conducted under the framework of the ITU Regional Initiative for Europe on trust and confidence in the use of telecommunications/ICTs, as agreed upon by the 2022 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-22).
Combining a Cybersecurity Forum, technical trainings, and CyberDrill exercises, this event aims to enhance the communication and incident response capabilities of participating teams from European countries. It also seeks to foster collective and collaborative efforts to mitigate cyber threats among Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) from both Europe and the Arab regions of the Mediterranean.
Scheduled for November 26th to 29th, 2024, in Sofia, Bulgaria, this four-day event continues ITU's tradition of organizing regional CyberDrills to build cybersecurity capacity and capability through collaboration and cooperation.
The primary objective of the ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean is to strengthen the cybersecurity readiness and resilience of the CSIRT community across Europe and the Mediterranean region. Specifically, it aims to:
• Enhance cybersecurity capacity and capability through regional cooperation.
• Assist Member States in developing and implementing operational procedures to improve responses to various cyber incidents.
• Identify areas for improvement in future planning and CIRT processes at the national level.
• Strengthen international cooperation between Member States.
• Promote knowledge sharing to foster a regional culture of cybersecurity preparedness.
The ITU Cybersecurity Forum and CyberDrill for Europe and the Mediterranean revolve around four main thematic concepts:
Reflect, Share, Learn, and Practice.
| - Reflect: Bring together the global cybersecurity community to review major regional cybersecurity trends and consider improvements based on the five pillars of ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA) and The Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI).
- Share: Promote knowledge sharing of beneficial communication networks, and exchange funding stream resources.
- Learn: Build capacity for the CSIRT communities within incident response and critical information infrastructure protection (CIIP).
- Practice: Test operational resiliency key concepts across CSIRT/CIRT/CERT community.
