DESCRIPTION OF THE SESSION


An exchange of cyber threat information is critical to the security of cyberspace. Through an interactive workshop, Tracy Bills and Robin Ruefle from the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute will provide insights into how computer security incident response teams share information. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn how information sharing with other incident response teams occurs, hear best practices for information sharing and gain a base level awareness about information sharing tools.

SPEAKERS INFORMATION


Tracy A. Bills is a Senior Cybersecurity Operations Researcher at the CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center hosted at Carnegie Mellon University. She has over 20 years of combined experience in cybersecurity and intelligence analysis. She has helped build and mature national-level cybersecurity information sharing programs. 
Her previous professional experience includes being the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center’s (MS-ISAC) liaison to the Department of Homeland Security where she served as the link between Federal Government and State, Local, Territorial, and Tribal (SLTT) Governments for cybersecurity awareness. Prior to that, Tracy was a Senior Cyber Threat Analyst in the Department of Defense (DoD) providing situational awareness and understanding of cyber threats impacting DoD networks.


Robin Ruefle is the team lead for the CSIRT Development and Training team within the Security Operations team in the CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Her focus is developing guidance and for the establishment, operation, and evaluation of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), security operations capabilities and insider threat programs.
She also develops and delivers courses on building and operating CSIRTs, security operations centers (SOCs), and insider threat programs; along with leading evaluation teams to help such entities improve their processes. Robin received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and her Masters of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) from the University of Pittsburgh.
