Kim I. Mallalieu (PhD), Senior Lecturer, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, The University of the West Indies

​​Kim Mallalieu is Leader of the Communication Systems Group and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of the West Indies. She also leads the Caribbean ICT Research Programme; and is the Deputy Chairman of the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.

Kim is an avid mentor of girls and women in science, technology, engineering and math; and a regular motivational speaker on the topic. She is the recipient of local, regional and international teaching as well as research awards, and other awards of distinction including the Caribbean Women in Science Award and the Faith Wiltshire Award for Women in ICT. Her biographical sketches appear in “Caribbean Women in Science and their Careers" and “A Compilation of Biographies of Women Scientists in Trinidad and Tobago", among other publications.

Kim has led many institutional, national and regional initiatives designed to build capacity for ICT-enabled developmental interventions and innovation; and conceived and coordinated an international Master's programme in telecommunications regulation and policy. Her research interests lie in communication systems and its purposeful application for human good; with an emphasis on underserved populations.

Kim holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT, an MS in Optics from The University of Rochester and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from University College London.
