International Girls in ICT Day 2014 events

​Oracle Academy and Ministry of Education

Maharagama, Sri Lanka, 2014, March 20​

The event at National Institute of Education, Maharagama welcomed 51 girl students from MoE schools in Western Province. 

The Marketing Manager, Oracle Corporate Citizenship at Oracle Corporation, Ms. Geetanjali Singh presented insights on careers in the ICT field and showed ways that the young girls could take advantage of the numerous opportunities ICTs have to offer. Assistant Director of Education-ICT, Mrs. Sumudu Wijesooriya of Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, addressed the audience by emphasizing that Girls Can Do ICT and that there are numerous advantages in the field.

The participating girls and their teachers were given an exposure to fundamental programming with Alice 3D animation in a workshop followed by the speeches. Workshops were conducted by Ms. Singh and 02 MoE teacher facilitators.
